Angola Upstream Performance Report: Deepwater Assets Anchor April Production Volumes

Luanda — Angola’s National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) has released its production data for April 2026, revealing a total monthly crude oil volume of 30,906,317 barrels. This brings the country's daily average to 1,030,211 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). While indicating stable operational flow across the deepwater basins, the total performance fell slightly below the state's initial projection of 1,065,071 BOPD. Facility efficiency for the month averaged 89%, tracking marginally beneath the planned 91% target. Combined with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) output, total production reached 31,697,091 Barrels of Oil Equivalent (BOE), representing a daily pace of 1,056,570 BOEPD.
Major Deepwater Blocks Maintain Dominance

The production landscape continues to be heavily supported by major deepwater assets, with Block 17 preserving its position as the country's primary volume driver. Together, Block 17, Block 15, and Block 15/06 accounted for 617,083 BOPD, which translates to roughly 60% of Angola's entire daily oil output for April.

Below is the complete official block-by-block performance for both crude oil and associated gas:

Gas Utilization and ALNG Performance

Associated gas production registered a total of 70,396 million cubic feet, maintaining a daily average of 2,347 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Upstream operators sustained high resource utilization rates aligned with environmental and commercial strategies: 852 MMSCFD was reinjected for reservoir pressure maintenance, 286 MMSCFD was consumed for internal power generation across various petroleum installations, and 853 MMSCFD was routed to the Angola LNG (ALNG) plant in Soyo.

The ALNG facility generated 4,377,000 BOE during April, down 1.62% from its projected 4,449,120 BOE. This factory output averaged 145,900 BOEPD, which consisted of:

  • LNG: 127,774 BOEPD
  • Propane: 7,480 BOEPD
  • Butane: 5,506 BOEPD
  • Condensates: 5,140 BOEPD

Separately, LPG production within the Cabinda Association reached 333,615 barrels (averaging 11,121 bpd), split between Propane (6,312 barrels), Butane (4,448 barrels), and onshore LPG (361 barrels).

Lifting Shares and Refining Allocations

Total domestic and international liftings for April stood at 28,419,518 barrels, averaging 947,317 BOPD against a forecast of 1,048,333 BOPD. Out of the total volume lifted, exports accounted for the vast majority at 28,027,383 barrels, while 392,135 barrels were allocated to domestic processing at the Luanda Refinery.

The national lifting distributions among major state entities were recorded as follows:

  • ANPG (National Concessionaire): Lifted 3,282,785 barrels (12% of total shares), directing 3,240,423 barrels to export and 42,362 barrels to the local refinery.
  • Sonangol UNEP: Lifted 4,325,979 barrels (15% of total shares), allocating 4,300,219 barrels for export and 25,760 barrels to the refinery.
  • Sonangol E.P.: Lifted 916,835 barrels (3% of total shares), sending 666,414 barrels to export and 250,421 barrels to the refinery.

Active Rig Deployment and Well Operations

To counter natural depletion and expand current reserves, active drilling and well intervention operations were intense through April, with a total of 13 active drilling units completing 11,447 drilled meters across 22 wells.

The rig deployment breakdown includes:

Onshore (1 unit): The Ideco 350 operating in the FS/FST Associations.

Shallow Water (5 units): The Jack-Up Shelf Drilling Tenacious and the Light Well Intervention Vessel (LWIV) Hamad Eagle in Block 0; the Jack-Up Valaris V-144 in the New Gas Consortium (NGC) block; the SMS Essa in Block 2/05; and the Borr Grid in Block 3/05.

Deepwater (7 units): Valaris DS-9 in Block 15; Saipem 12K, Sonangol Libongos, and Valaris DS-7 in Block 15/06; Tungsten Explorer in Block 17; West Gemini in Block 24; and Sonangol Quenguela in Block 32.

Of the 22 wells evaluated during the month, 4 involved interventions on active producers (2 completed, 2 ongoing). The remaining 18 wells were tied to development drilling and completions, resulting in 3 completed production wells, 3 suspended wells, 2 active producers under evaluation, and 9 production development wells remaining in progress alongside 3 abandonment operations.
